SMTS - Development [8-12 years experience] [Prism]
Hungry, Humble, Honest, with Heart.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Senior Member of Technical Staff (SMTS) to provide technical leadership across multiple areas of the Prism platform.
In this role, you will define technical direction, lead the design of complex distributed systems, and drive initiatives that improve the scalability, reliability, security, and operability of the Prism control plane. You will partner closely with architects, engineering managers, and product management to deliver capabilities that span multiple services and engineering teams.
This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving difficult systems problems, influencing technical strategy, and mentoring engineers through technical leadership rather than organizational authority.
About the Team
The Prism team develops Nutanix's management and control plane, providing a unified platform for managing clusters, infrastructure, virtual machines, storage, and networking across hybrid cloud environments. Our mission is to build a highly available, secure, and scalable control plane that delivers a consistent management experience for enterprise customers.
Our engineers work on distributed systems, API platforms, lifecycle management, observability, identity and security, and large-scale platform services that form the foundation of the Nutanix ecosystem.
Your Role
Technical Leadership
Lead the architecture and design of major platform initiatives spanning multiple services or engineering teams.
Work on performance analysis and micro-benchmarking of services and improve their scalability and resource efficiency.
Drive technical decisions through design reviews, architecture discussions, and technical RFCs.
Establish engineering standards that improve system quality, maintainability, and long-term evolution.
Distributed Systems
Design and build highly available, fault-tolerant distributed systems that power the Prism management plane.
Solve challenging problems involving scalability, consistency, resiliency, service discovery, concurrency, and failure recovery.
Drive improvements to platform performance, resource efficiency, and operational scalability.
Platform Engineering
Lead the evolution of Prism APIs, management workflows, lifecycle management, and platform infrastructure.
Improve deployment, upgrade, and operational workflows to enable reliable, zero-downtime customer upgrades.
Drive initiatives that improve platform observability, diagnostics, and production operability.
Cross-Team Execution
Identify technical risks early and drive pragmatic solutions balancing short-term delivery with long-term maintainability.
Lead technically across multiple engineering teams to deliver large cross-functional projects.
Collaborate closely with product management, customer support, and other platform teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
Engineering Excellence
Raise the engineering bar through thoughtful code reviews, design reviews, mentoring, and technical coaching.
Foster a culture of operational excellence, testing automation, performance measurement, and continuous improvement.
Mentor engineers across the organization and help develop future technical leaders.
What You Will Bring
